Environmental Law

Environmental Law comprises all those provisions relating to the environmental protection. Environmental Law has historically evolved as a response to different environmental problems and is therefore oriented in its core areas to specific environmental problems and is therefore oriented in its core areas to specific environmental media or load factors. Public Building Law, Soil Protection Law, Nature Protection Law, Licensing Procedures under the Federal Pollution Control Act and also planning procedures are part of the original Environment Law. In addition, the Waste Legislation, its respective European Directives and other special materials, such as Nuclear Law, Chemicals Law, and Water Law etc. can be counted as Environmental Laws.

Environmental Laws and regulations

The classic German environmental regulations are the WHG (Water Protection Act, Water Protection Law), the BImSchG (Federal Emissions Control Act), the BBodSchG (German Law for Soil Protection), the BNatSchG (the Federal Act for the Protection of Nature), KrWG (Recycling and Waste Law) and much more. Through the European Directives, the completion of the environmental treaties and regulatory activities at national level are constantly creating new environmental laws.  These regulations are enforced by German “Länder” and municipalities (environmental authorities).
